Chapter 1864 - 1861: Memory Fragments
"I already know about your situation, and I’m very sorry that my lecture brought you some unpleasant memories." Professor Melissa stood up from the sofa, and her first words were a sincere apology.
This made Lin Tian and the others slightly surprised. Regardless of whether her hypnotism was real or not, at least she was quite well-known, and being able to meet and apologize in person, Lin Tian had never seen a lecturer lower themselves so much.
According to other lecture instructors, they should be complaining about Lin Tian disrupting the lecture order, but Melissa chose to apologize.
"Professor Melissa, to be honest, we left early not because of that assistant." Although Lin Tian didn’t know her intention, he responded anyway.
"Oh, then you must think my hypnotism is fake and not attractive, right?" Professor Melissa gave a rather mischievous smile, as if talking to old friends.
Such open words made Lin Tian and the others surprised again.
Melissa smiled brightly and said, "Actually, your feelings were correct; the hypnotism on stage just now was indeed fake."
Lin Tian and the others were completely baffled, not only did she apologize but she also admitted her hypnotism was fake!
"Oh, don’t mind me, I’m being quite direct, but that’s the truth. The hypnotism on stage is fake because it involves the privacy of the subject, which is not suitable for public display. The on-stage demonstration was merely to achieve the lecture effect," Melissa said very seriously.
"We understand, thank you very much for the candidness, Professor Melissa," Xiao Manxuan said sincerely.
"It’s the right thing to do. If you don’t mind, I can demonstrate hypnotism here. Of course, with your consent and cooperation," Professor Melissa looked at Lin Tian and the others, invitingly.
Lin Tian felt a surge of joy; he was worried about where to find a hypnotist and now one had come to him.
"Haven’t you always wanted to see it? Now you can experience it yourself. Who wants to go first?" Lin Tian turned to Xiao Manxuan and the other three, but he was actually looking at Qiao Xiaoyi, as his goal was to hypnotize Qiao Xiaoyi.
But Mu Binglan interrupted, "I’ll go first."
"Alright, please sit on the sofa and relax..." Melissa gestured for Mu Binglan to sit on the sofa, then she moved a billiard ball on the table.
A row of steel balls began to rhythmically hit each other on the rack, producing clear sounds. Melissa suddenly reached out and patted Mu Binglan’s shoulder, causing her to slowly close her eyes and recline on the sofa.
If he hadn’t seen it with his own eyes, if he didn’t know Mu Binglan, Lin Tian would definitely think Mu Binglan was acting and collaborating in a play. Clearly, that’s impossible; Mu Binglan wouldn’t cooperate with Melissa.
"Sister Lan, she... she..." Xiao Manxuan stared at Mu Binglan who suddenly fell asleep, looking surprised and also a bit worried.
"She wouldn’t be under witchcraft, would she?" Qiao Xiaoyi whispered, and it’s no wonder he thought so, since Melissa was known as a witch.
"This is rapid hypnotism; there’s also a more advanced one called instant hypnotism. However, instant hypnotism has a certain negative impact on the subject, and it’s generally not used unless necessary," Lin Tian explained.
Actually, from the moment they entered the RV, the hypnotism had already started. The setting of the environment, the atmosphere, the rhythmic sound of the steel balls, and Melissa’s words and actions, all constituted the hypnotism without them noticing.
"Snap..." Melissa snapped her fingers, and Mu Binglan slowly opened her eyes, her gaze still filled with shock.
"Hypnotism can generally change the psychological state of the subject or awaken some hidden memories. What did you see just now?" Melissa asked.
Mu Binglan furrowed her brows, recalling for a moment: "Fire, a big fire, light, golden light, I didn’t see anything else..." She almost whispered, as if talking to herself.
Lin Tian was startled; fire and golden light, wasn’t that related to the events that happened on the night of the blood moon? He exchanged a glance with Xiao Manxuan and quickly asked, "Can you think of anything else?"
"There’s more..." Mu Binglan looked at Qiao Xiaoyi, and just when Lin Tian thought she would remember something, she shook her head and said, "It’s too blurry, like seeing through a fog, can’t see clearly, it’s strange, why do I have these memory fragments?"
As she spoke, she pressed her temples, seeming exhausted from recalling. Xiao Manxuan went up and patted her, comforting her, "Forget it if you can’t remember, Professor Melissa mentioned it might just be memories, maybe scenes from some movie you watched before?"
"Uh, that’s quite possible." Melissa nodded slightly, speaking ambiguously, seemingly unable to figure it out herself.
"Xiaoyi, how about you give it a try?" Lin Tian asked casually.
"Me?" Qiao Xiaoyi was taken aback, then glanced at Mu Binglan, his face blushing: "I... well, I’d better not."
"What are you afraid of, be a man. I’ve tried it, and there’s nothing wrong, just like having a strange dream," Mu Binglan encouraged him.
Mu Binglan’s words left Qiao Xiaoyi with no way to refuse, so he agreed, "Alright."
He sat himself down on the sofa and adopted a comfortable, relaxed posture, and Melissa began to apply her technique.
In movies, hypnotists always sway something in front of the subject’s eyes; honestly, that’s a bit childish, if it were him, Lin Tian would just slap it away.
Melissa wasn’t waving anything around though; she simply talked and gestured naturally, and this time she didn’t even need to pat his shoulder as Qiao Xiaoyi fell asleep on his own.
"Professor Melissa, is it possible to ask questions while he’s in a hypnotic state?" Lin Tian tentatively asked, the reason being he feared that Xiaoyi would wake up and forget everything like Mu Binglan.
Melissa clearly hesitated for a moment before saying, "You can ask, but don’t probe too deeply personal questions, as it concerns his privacy. Without his consent, we can’t violate the subject’s privacy."
"No problem, I just want to ask him something about myself. However, I hope Professor Melissa and Mu Binglan can step out for a moment, as it involves my privacy as well." Lin Tian stated solemnly.
He wasn’t lying, but he didn’t elaborate either, as Xiao Manxuan knew about Ksitigarbha, which Melissa and Mu Binglan couldn’t know.
"Alright then, you have five minutes, but don’t let the subject get lost in memories for too long." Melissa agreed, but also reminded Lin Tian.
Although Mu Binglan didn’t know what Lin Tian wanted to ask, she trusted him, as both of them were saved by Lin Tian; what trust could compare to that?
Mu Binglan and Professor Melissa stepped outside, and Lin Tian sat in front of Qiao Xiaoyi, while Xiao Manxuan appeared even more nervous than Lin Tian since she already knew what Lin Tian intended to ask.
"Xiaoyi, can you hear me? This is Lin Tian." Lin Tian first probed, seeing if Qiao Xiaoyi would respond.
The RV fell silent, and Qiao Xiaoyi didn’t open his eyes but his mouth moved slightly, "Brother Lin..."
