Chapter 299: Bang!
Chapter 299: Bang!
No one knew exactly what was going on, there was no doubt that something sinister was going on because there was no way a man could have orchestrated something so complex.
The community was safe and Corey was about to carry out his task but there was one missing factor, where was Andre?
Andre was nowhere to be seen but this was something that wasn’t strange in times like this as he could have easily ventured out to check if there were supplies close by however their numbers weren’t depleted.
Corey was alone with Brayden, away from everyone else leaving both men secluded.
Corey was walking behind slowly as he trailed Brayden until they came to a stop but this wasn’t what Corey was expecting.
"Where is this place?" Corey couldn’t help himself but ask as there was nothing in sight.
"This is a graveyard..." Brayden responded to which Corey subtly took a defensive stance, was this some threat?
"Why did you bring me to a graveyard?" Corey asked but Brayden’s eyes were fixed at a particular cross buried into the ground with a name hung on it.
It was Andre’s name, Andre had fallen but Corey mistook this as a threat.
This was anything but a threat, Brayden brought him here because he felt that Andre’s presence could be felt there.
This was him asking his old friend for guidance and there was nothing that either of them could do because Corey didn’t know how skilled of a fighter this man was so he couldn’t be reckless.
He was full of openings but there was no way that a normal person could have these openings, it is the same way it would be impossible for a person to score zero in a hundred-question objective exam without knowing the answer.
Only a skilled person could have these many openings, as contradicting as it sounded, this was the case.
"You have come here to discuss something, let’s get on with it," Brayden said sternly, his entire demeanour had changed at that moment.
"What do you want?" Brayden questioned, he could tell that they had enough gunfire to cause them some trouble but the truth was that they couldn’t keep living out here.
They had a limited amount of meds not to mention food and the weather was against them, there was no way they could survive out in the open.
They had to leave and this was why they were scouting potential places to migrate to but they were unaware that the place they were looking at was where Shantel was.
And even if they knew, there was no telling what kind of fate awaited Shantel but something told them it wasn’t a pleasant one.
Andre was dead and there was a shift in Brayden’s personality; the numbers that they had in their camp also implied that something had occurred to claim lives or people had defected to take their chances out there but this graveyard said otherwise.
There were multiple headstones and Corey wondered why they bothered to bury their dead when it was advisable to burn them.
This was a ritual that had long lost meaning the moment they got the ability to come back to life, that was blasphemy in every sense as it contradicted the design that God had for man.
You only live once and the desecration of the body was an act against God himself, Corey was a man who believed in God albeit in the Old Testament.
He did things the old-school way but that didn’t mean he was following it down to the tee.
"I have come to give you salvation, I do not know what is going on here but it looks like you people cannot stay here for long if I’m not mistaken," Corey said but Brayden was suspicious of this.
"You came all the way here, risked your lives to help us? That is strange considering you could have waited for the next time one of my own came over and relayed the message to them," Brayden pointed out, this was a bit extreme.
No one was that selfless and even Jason who made a positive impression on them came here for a reason, there was always a reason.
"That is right, we have taken in people like you..." Corey pointed out, that he was trying his best to make him drop his guard because if he could find a way to kill him, the others wouldn’t resist seeing as he is their leader.
"Fucking hell..." Corey muttered under his breath, he was getting tired of the back and forth.
"If we wanted you dead, you would all be dead. If you have been watching our community, you would know that we not only outnumber you but outgun as well..." Corey said sternly but this could be translated as a threat, exactly how Brayden perceived it.
"And what happens if we don’t accept?" Brayden questioned only to feel the nozzle of a pistol pressed to the back of his head. They had frisked them so these people shouldn’t have any weapons on them but apparently, Corey was one step ahead.
"You finally let down your guard," Corey said with a grin and what followed was a gunshot.
-
"Rachel, we need to be quick!" Glenn urged her as they got closer to the camp, he could tell that they were still located in the same place as they were a year back which was a good thing as it made it easier for him to find them.
But then, a gunshot echoed in the distance and he realized at that moment that they might be too late, however, the distance of the sound told them that they were close.
Glenn threw all caution in the wind and ran towards the location with Rachel running closely behind.
If they had killed whoever led these people, all that was left was utter chaos.
There would be no way to talk things out either, that window would pass.
"Corey you bastard! You better not have!" Glenn said under his breath.
