Chapter 606: The Bad Matchup Problem
Chapter 606: The Bad Matchup Problem
The next day, Garion returned to the private viewing room with Dahlia, Slifera, Elisa, and Alira.
The tournament site was even louder than before.
After Dahlia defeated Veyrion, the name God Gym had spread even faster.
Many spectators were now watching the second round with much more excitement, hoping to see whether another unknown monster would appear.
Inside the private room, Garion sat comfortably on the sofa while looking at the giant holographic screen. "So Rovak’s match is today, right?"
Slifera nodded. "Yeah. His match should start soon."
Dahlia leaned against the side of the sofa with both arms crossed. "Good. I want to see how strong he really is."
Elisa calmly glanced at the match list. "His opponent won’t be easy."
Garion raised an eyebrow. "Oh?"
Before Elisa could explain, the giant screen above the arena suddenly flashed.
[Second Round Match]
[Rovak]
[Drakhor Race]
[VS]
[Veyra Thornclaw]
[Thorn Beast Race]
The moment the name appeared, the crowd immediately erupted.
"Veyra Thornclaw!"
"She’s fighting Rovak?!"
"This match is going to be brutal!"
"Veyra is one of the favorites to reach the top eight!"
Garion looked at the screen with interest.
On the hologram, a young woman with sharp green eyes walked into the arena.
Dark claw marks covered both of her arms, and faint green-black energy leaked from her fingers like poison mist.
Garion rubbed his chin. "So she’s one of the favorites?"
Alira nodded calmly. "Yes. Veyra Thornclaw is known for speed, poison, and close-range killing techniques. Her first-round match ended almost instantly."
Slifera crossed his arms. "She’s not the type Rovak likes fighting."
Dahlia glanced at him. "Why?"
Elisa answered calmly, "Rovak prefers direct opponents who clash head-on. Veyra won’t fight like that. She’ll avoid his strength, target weak points, and poison him little by little."
Garion grinned. "So basically, bad matchup?"
Slifera nodded. "Very bad."
On the screen, Rovak walked into the arena with his usual huge grin.
Compared to Veyra’s silent predator-like presence, Rovak looked like a walking war beast. His dark-red aura flickered around his muscular body as he cracked his knuckles loudly.
Veyra looked at him calmly.
Rovak grinned. "You’re one of the strong ones, right?"
Veyra’s claws slowly extended. "That depends on whether you survive long enough to find out."
Inside the private room, Dahlia’s grin widened. "Oh?"
Garion leaned forward slightly, eyes bright with interest. "Now this looks fun."
The announcer’s voice echoed across the arena.
"Second Round Match!"
"Rovak versus Veyra Thornclaw!"
The protective barrier rose.
The crowd roared.
Then the announcer shouted... "Begin!"
---
The moment the announcer’s voice fell, Veyra moved first, and her body blurred into a green-black shadow.
Rovak’s eyes sharpened. Veyra was faster than he had thought, but he could still see her movements.
The moment he locked onto her, he twisted his body and threw a punch toward his left.
BOOOOM!!!
But to his surprise, his fist smashed into empty air, creating a violent shockwave that cracked the arena floor.
Meanwhile, Veyra had already appeared behind him, flashing her claws coldly.
[Thorn Shadow Claw]
SHING!
Three green-black claw marks tore across Rovak’s back, sparking against his armor as shallow wounds appeared beneath the torn metal.
Rovak frowned and directly swung his elbow backward in the same moment.
BANG!
Veyra blocked with both arms, but the force still pushed her away, making her land several meters away.
Rovak rolled his shoulder and laughed. "Hahaha! Good! You really are fast!"
Veyra frowned a little and raised one hand. A faint poisonous mist began to leak from her claws. "Laugh while you still can."
The next moment, she vanished again and several afterimages appeared around Rovak at once.
[Venom Mirage Step]
Rovak’s eyes moved quickly, but this time, Veyra was just too fast for him to follow clearly, so he directly stomped hard on the ground.
[Drakhor War Pulse]
BOOOOOOM!!!
A dark-red shockwave exploded from his body, spreading in every direction and shattering several afterimages in an instant.
But Veyra’s real body slipped through the edge of the shockwave and slashed toward his ribs.
SHING!
Another cut appeared. Although it wasn’t deep, burning numbness quickly spread from the wound, meaning it was poisoned.
Rovak frowned slightly the moment he noticed it.
Inside the private viewing room, Slifera immediately leaned forward. "She already got him."
Dahlia frowned. "That poison works really fast."
Elisa nodded calmly. "Veyra’s poison doesn’t kill immediately. It slows movement and dulls energy circulation."
Garion rubbed his chin. "So the longer the fight goes, the worse it gets for Rovak."
Alira nodded once. "Exactly."
Back in the arena, Rovak clenched his fists as dark-red aura surged around his body. "Annoying little claw girl..."
Veyra circled him silently, never staying in one place for too long.
Rovak suddenly charged forward.
[Drakhor Fang Rush]
BOOOOM!!!
He shot across the arena like a dark-red beast, fists tearing through the air with brutal force.
Veyra managed to dodge every punch Rovak delivered, and in an instant, she suddenly spun low and slashed across Rovak’s leg.
SHING!
Rovak’s step faltered.
And in that brief moment, she appeared in front of him and struck his chest with both claws.
[Venom Thorn Break]
BOOOOM!!!
Green-black energy exploded against Rovak’s body, pushing him backward and leaving long marks across the arena floor.
When he finally stopped, his grin had faded slightly, and he slowly raised his head.
For the first time in the match, Rovak frowned. "Yeah, this time it’s really bad. You’re really a bad match for me."
Veyra stopped several meters away from him, her green-black claws dripping with poisonous energy.
Then she grinned. "Only now you realize that?"
She moved lightly around him, her steps almost soundless. "A Drakhor like you is strong, tough, and explosive... but that also makes you simple."
Rovak narrowed his eyes.
Veyra lifted one claw and smiled mockingly. "As long as I don’t let you touch me, your strength means nothing."
The crowd immediately grew louder.
"She’s right!"
"Rovak can’t catch her!"
"Veyra’s poison already entered his body too!"
Inside the private viewing room, Slifera frowned. "This is getting dangerous."
Elisa nodded calmly. "If Rovak keeps dragging this out, his movement will slow even more."
Dahlia leaned forward slightly, her grin fading a little. "So what will he do?"
Garion stared at the arena silently.
Back on the battlefield, Veyra’s smile widened. "You should surrender while you can still stand. If this continues, you’ll only collapse uglier."
Rovak stared at her for a moment and suddenly laughed loudly, surprising everyone.
He slowly cracked his neck and shoulders. "Congratulations..."
Veyra frowned. "What?"
Rovak’s dark-red aura began to burn violently around his body. "You’re strong enough to make me stop playing around."
The poison marks across his body pulsed, but his grin only became wilder. "Time to unleash my full power."
BOOOOOOM!!!
A heavier dark-red pressure erupted from Rovak’s body, shaking the arena floor beneath him.
The crowd instantly fell silent.
