Chapter 266 - 263: Acting a Scene
Tina was gazing lovingly at the "Young Master Kingston" beside her when she suddenly sensed something was wrong and looked ahead.
When she saw clearly that someone ahead was aiming a gun in their direction, she instinctively glanced at "Young Master Kingston." The barrel was pointed right at him.
Her eyes widened, pupils dilating in terror. The moment the bullet was fired, she screamed, "Watch out!" and took a step forward, shielding "Young Master Kingston" with her body.
The bullet instantly pierced her chest. Clara Grant slowly looked down at her heart, where blood was gushing out.
Behind her, "Young Master Kingston" was first stunned, then panicked. He caught the slowly collapsing Tina, crying out, "Tina, Tina..."
Tina lifted her head slightly to look at the anxious "Young Master Kingston." A faint smile graced her lips—the smile of a worthy death, of complete contentment.
He was the first person she had ever loved, the person she had loved her entire life. And though he had rejected her affections, he was worried and heartbroken for her in her final moments, wasn’t he?
She had died to save him, and now she was dying in his arms. She was utterly satisfied.
Tina’s brow furrowed in pain. A tear slid from her smiling, clear-as-water eyes, tracing a path past the corner of her upturned lips.
She slowly raised a hand, wanting to caress her beloved’s face. She had loved him for so long, yet she had never once touched his face. She wanted to remember the feeling in her final moments.
But her hand, barely halfway there, slowly fell. Tina’s head tilted into "Young Master Kingston’s" arms as she closed her eyes for the last time.
And yet, the faint smile remained on her lips, and even the single tear seemed to hold a hint of blissful joy.
Perhaps Clara’s performance was just too good, her expression and emotions too perfect. Holly Summers was swept up in the moment, completely forgetting she was only pretending to be "Young Master Kingston." She grabbed Clara’s hand, pressed it to her own face, and let the tears stream down. "Tina, Tina, wake up, Tina..."
Clara Grant silently called "Cut!" in her head. But when she heard Holly still lost in the role, crying out Tina’s name, she was touched and opened her eyes.
Holly was still in character when she felt the hand on her face twitch. A second later, she heard a weak, sorrowful voice, "Your Majesty, have you forgotten Heather Summers by Quivermere?"
She paused and looked down to see Clara Grant’s eyes open. The blissful expression from moments ago was gone, replaced with a look of utter desolation.
Holly froze for a second, then realized Clara was messing with her. She shoved her away, wiped her tears, and laughed as she cursed, "Oh, get lost!"
But Clara Grant just roared with laughter and threw her arms around Holly, exclaiming, "Your Majesty, it is I, Heather Summers! It is your Heather! I have waited a lifetime for you, thought of you for a lifetime! Can it be that you no longer remember me? Your Majesty!"
Her acting was so over-the-top it gave Holly goosebumps, but she felt a playful urge and hugged her back, ad-libbing, "Of course I remember, Heather! I remember you! I remember your stunning beauty, your gentle nature. Heather, come with me to the palace at once. We shall never be parted again."
"But, Your Majesty, Heather no longer has the time to spend every moment with you, day and night. Heather cannot grow old with you. Because... in the years since Your Majesty’s departure, Heather has fallen in love with another man..."
"Pfft!" Holly couldn’t hold it in anymore and burst out laughing. Clara couldn’t keep a straight face either, and the two of them collapsed into a fit of giggles.
As the two were fooling around, a phone started to ring. It was Clara Grant’s.
She reached for her phone, but when she saw the name flashing on the screen, she furtively dodged Holly’s gaze and scrambled to her feet.
